Glucose

🩺 Contexts for Glucose Readings

  • Fasting glucose (no food for at least 8 hours):

    • Normal: under 100 mg/dL
    • Prediabetes: 100–125 mg/dL
    • Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or higher (on two separate tests)
→ So, 107 mg/dL in fasting conditions is considered slightly above normal and falls into the prediabetes range.
  • Postprandial glucose (2 hours after eating):

    • Normal: under 140 mg/dL
    • Prediabetes: 140–199 mg/dL
    • Diabetes: 200 mg/dL or higher
→ If your reading was after a meal, 107 mg/dL is well within the normal range.
  • Random glucose (anytime, without regard to meals):

    • Normal: usually under 140 mg/dL
    • Diabetes: 200 mg/dL or higher, with symptoms
→ At 107 mg/dL, this would be considered normal.

⚠️ Important: A single reading doesn’t diagnose anything. Doctors usually confirm with repeated tests (fasting glucose, HbA1c, or oral glucose tolerance test).

Would you like me to explain how lifestyle factors like diet and exercise can influence glucose levels, or go deeper into medical tests used to confirm prediabetes?
